Top 10 instrumental submissions EP 2 October • Word Is Bond

It won’t be fair not to show love to the cats that work behind the boards. Cats whose soundscapes help push hip-hop to loft heights. So in the same vein, this weekly list sheds light on budding and even established producers who continue to push the envelope for the culture. So sit back relax and get familiar with these producers.
Remember, don’t forget to support them by sharing their works.

Will Brack kicks off this weekend list with a multi-genre focused beat titled “If & When”. It’s very off-kilter and doesn’t follow the norm with its layered instrumentation and emotion-gripping vibe. He blends orchestral sounds and hip-hop elements into a cinematic climax. It really sounds like something from a 70s action flick. On another note, the track was made for his wife who is a fan of classic Hollywood flicks.

“If & When” is off his debut album, Wanderlust

UK producer Handbook blesses the list with a soulful, dreamy track titled “Hopeful”. Like the title suggests, the track has a bright, uplifting vibe with its dreamy keys and warm bass line to match. It is essentially a feel good track that soothes the soul from top to bottom.

Producer Nottr drops 2 beats for our listening pleasure this weekend.

“Samedi” starts with a mellow lo-fi sample and switches up into a hard drum driven beat laced with a vocal sample that runs through the song.

“Ayers beat” samples Roy Ayers and has a more funky feel behind it. Interesting and vibrant to say the least. It also samples that classic Aretha Franklin vocal soundbite from “Ms. Fat Booty

Toranpetto delivers a solid record to close out this week’s list. The track “Portland Rain” pays homage to the Pacific Northwest with a solemn, laid-back vibe and syncopated drum groove. This is something to rock to while drinking a good cup of tea and biscuits if that is what you fancy.

He also sums it up with a quote “The Pacific Northwest is known for warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters—and Portland is no exception.”

James Gardin’s “Joy” is funky & danceable

Joy is something we all try to find in every day. At times, its located in painfully apparent places. Sometimes, its qualities are more elusive and need to be dug up from overlooked nooks and crannies. At the end of the day, joy is always found in things that are internal and eternal.

James Gardin continues his undefeated streak as The World’s Most Encouraging Rapper™? and reconvenes with his longtime collaborator TheyCallMeHeat. The result is a fresh new single to help people get through their big, medium and small sads. This song is a funky, danceable number that has the soundscape of a Hip Hop spaghetti western. Think joyful, joyful Lord we adore thee meets ambidextrous diddy bop and infectious nod.

Joy releases today on Illect Recordings.

Serious Klein pontificates on that special lady on "These Days" • Word Is Bond

Serious Klein is not one to sleep on judging from the quality of material he puts out. The versatile emcee can go from classic vintage boom-bap tracks to trap influenced records at the drop of a hat. He doesn’t seem like the one to be boxed in and on his newest record “These Days”, he shows another side of him. The soundscape he employed here is laid back, soulful and allows him to dwell on an unnamed individual whom he showers praises on. The chorus has an offbeat neo-soul vibe as well and adds that extra spice to the groovy record.
