PREMIERE: Teck-Zilla “Soul Buttah” beat tape

We’re proud to present a streaming premiere for Teck-Zilla’s Soul Buttah beat tape.

Nigerian-based producer Teck-Zilla delivers a new beat tape that can be best described by the words used in its title. Soul Buttah is exactly that—a project boasting soulful, buttery smooth instrumentals that blend classic Boom bap with modern, trap-leaning sounds for something wholly unique.

Soul Buttah is more than the latest beat tape from Teck-Zilla, though. It also represents his career coming full circle, as it’s the direct sequel to his debut, Souled Off: A Dedication to Molly Molls. It’s also the second of three tapes he plans on dropping this year (peep JetSoul Musique from earlier this year if you’ve been sleeping).

Musically, Soul Buttah carries Teck’s tradition of marrying different sounds to make one that’s all his own. And while we could praise each individual joint on here, it’s those with beat-switches like “Soul Buttah Medley” and “Northwood Soul” that are sure to pull you in during a cursory spin. That’s all part of Teck’s plan, of course. He created “Northwood Soul” as he was “looking for that laid-back feel but with tiny switch-ups and all that.”

The “all that” he’s referring to are what make the track so immediately engaging, because it feels like you’re listening to the producer creating it on the spot. It’s an experimental, jolting listen, and it’s just one of the reasons heads are sure to love diggin’ into each portion of Soul Buttah.

Soul Buttah is now available through all major digital retailers and streaming platforms via Str8Buttah Productions!

Soul Buttah Tracklist
1. Soul Intro
2. Beat Cheese
3. Soul Buttah Medley
4. Butterfly Dreams
5. To Damita Jo, with Love
6. Northwood Soul
7. Soul Retro

The artist’s description sums it up perfectly…

If you are looking for a song that features a happy and calming atmospheric hip-hop/jazz-hop style tune that has a euphoric and calming feel to it, my original instrumental production ‘She Makes Me Feel Like…’ would fit well with what you are looking for.

Ozay Moore releases “In The Wake Of O”

Ozay Moore and Illect Recordings are proud to present In The Wake Of O.

Over the last 20 years, Ozay Moore (fka Othello) has proven himself to be an exceptional storyteller time and time again. Whether as a member of the classic hip hop trio, Lightheaded, or as a solo artist, Moore’s alto flow has always moved crowds. Aided by some of the most soulful production and a deep knowledge of hip hop culture, Moore’s music is highly relatable because he blends personal experience with larger themes that cross cultural lines. Moore has been making records for quite some time so it would be understandable if he didn’t have more to say.

Thankfully, Ozay Moore is back and better than ever with In The Wake of O. Throughout his life Moore has seen a lot, done a lot, and Wake is a reflection of his journey in and outside of being an MC. Moore is no longer a young, ambitious rapper from Seattle focused solely on writing rhymes and traveling the world. Instead, he’s a family man in Lansing, MI having to strike a balance between his artistic goals and what’s best for his wife and two kids. How do you strike that balance? This is one of the central questions driving the record.

As the album unfolds, Moore grapples with the decision to drop the Othello moniker, his faith, racial politics in the U.S. and the impact of hip hop on his life. The word “wake” can mean many things, and In the Wake of O takes into account every single one. With an exceptional set of producers including Stro Elliot, Tall Black Guy, Ess Be, Freddie Joachim and Ohmega Watts, Wake is a seamless blend of boom bap crunch and soulful grooves. With guest appearances by Braille, Sareem Poems, Jahshua Smith, James Gardin and Propaganda the wordplay is as on point as it is thought provoking.

Ultimately, In The Wake of O is a reminder of why hip hop is such a powerful mode of communication. It also speaks to Ozay Moore’s deep love and respect for hip hop culture. As Wake plays from start to finish, Moore beautifully speaks on his personal journey while also making space for listeners to reflect on their own lives. There is something for everyone on this record.

Stream: Tee-Wyla – Journey beat tape

The Journey beat tape from Tee-Wyla dropped today via Illect Recordings. It’s a must listen and takes on a few twists and turns.

Tee-Wyla and Illect Recordings are excited to share an 11 track instrumental hip-hop “Journey” with you. It’s recommended for fans of beat tapes and producers like J. Dilla, Freddie Joachim, L’Orange, Mndsgn, Thes One, Birocratic and others.

About Tee-Wyla

Joshua Toala (pka Tee-Wyla), has composed numerous works for television, and commercials, many of which have been found on prime time programs for networks such as NBC,CBS, ABC, ESPN, VH1, BET, MTV, Radio 1 programming, and other major cable networks. Since 2002, Joshua has regularly accepted commissions for and scored music for independent film, and production companies, landing him frequent submissions for sitcoms, and database work with creative services for Viacom. While he has never formally studied music composition, he credits his curiosity and for all music and his love for God as being pivotal to his success as a composer and music producer. His most notable works include music appearing throughout the NBA Finals, The 2016 Olympics, UEFA CUP, World Cup, and several BET Award shows.

In addition to his successful licensing career, Joshua spends his time working as a hip-hop producer / instrumentalist under the name Tee-Wyla, releasing several instrumental projects, and is always finding ways to collaborate with other artists in every genre. His musical style varies from acoustic music, to classical string arrangements, interactive-sound installations, and literally everything in between, and while his musical influences are deeply rooted in electronic music, he utilizes non-traditional techniques and processes to compose works that don’t squarely align with any single genre or style, creating hybrid sounds incorporating, bluegrass, rock, folk, and technology.

Missiles Over Moscow “Right Before Midnight”
Dope chill hop vibes on this one. Jazzy and soulful, it’s an easy listen and left us wanting to hear more. Shouts to our friends at Stereofox.com.

Pablo Zuazo “Macaco Nu Jazz”
From the opening notes, I knew I was going to dig this. Really dope rhodes piano on this one that sets the mood just right. Looking forward to hearing Pablo’s next track.

C.O.W. “$hanghai Mone¥ EP”
This was unexpected. A pretty captivating listen with all the twists and turns. They produce and play mostly instrumental electronic music, which spans from obscure jazz interludes to electrified club beats. It’s tough to nail down an apples to apples comparison but it’s somewhere in between Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke.

VIOLENTLYILL “Clairvoyance (feat. DJ Koncept)”
This is dope. Video is awesome too. Ambient chilled out dreamy melodic hip-hop. DJ Koncept features on the cuts.
