PREMIERE: Imperial “Yellow Yachts” – Sphereofhiphop.com

Ahead of the midnight release of Yellow Yachts by Imperial, we’re premiering the track for you. It’s the second single from the Layers album dropping on Illect Recordings.

Imperial shares “Yellow Yachts is a bit of a turn left for me. The sun was shining, I was feeling good and this is what happened. I’ve always had a bit of a guilty pleasure for more uptempo almost pop driven beats and it all just came out. There is more boom bap on the way, but this is just a little pause to let people into my influences.

Imperial’s Hot Sauce is a Jazzy Hip-Hop gem

Hot Sauce is the lead single from Imperial’s forthcoming Layers LP releasing on Illect Recordings. This one is going into heavy rotation on several of our playlists.

Imperial shares, “I’ve always loved the sound of live hip hop, whether it’s artists who perform with a live band for their show or record studio albums with a band. Hot Sauce takes inspiration from that live hip hop sound and couples it with jazz infused rhythms. The sun is shining, the beat is chilled, grab a cold beverage and enjoy.

Ozay Moore, Sivion, Sojourn, Ragen Fykes drop PTPI single

On the heels of the dope In The Wake Of O LP and the Doin It single, Ozay Moore is back with the PTPI single.

Meager accommodations have produced some of the most resilient, imaginative, and impactful people throughout history. The Pot To Piss In for me is symbolic of basic needs, foundation, humble beginning’s and simplicity. This song was written close to 9 years ago while working on a mixtape with Canadian producer Wyze Intellect. The mix tape never achieved its finished state but we both felt good about the handful of songs we conjured up during the attempt. At the time, I wasn’t label mates with Sivion and Sojourn, just a long time friend and fan. Fast forward and we’re all on the Illect Recordings roster while P.T.P.I. has kept its freshness in tact for a 2018 release,” shares Ozay Moore.

Sareem Poems & Ess Be “Shallow (feat. Finale)”

Shallow gets a visual treatment. This Travis Hayward directed video is really dope!

Sareem Poems & Ess Be collaborate with Detroit emcee Finale on Shallow, the 3rd single from Mind Over Matter. Look for this album at all digital platforms via Illect Recordings.

“This is a song reflecting on the ups and downs of life. And how those ups and downs have pulled away at core values. Values that we as humanity were rooted in. Being faithful, hard working, loving & committed,” shares Sareem Poems.

He continues, “I personally feel little is valued outside of self. This flows through all forms of entertainment. Making everyone’s favorite form of escape or hobby very shallow. I’m thankful for those working to change that direction.”

Mind Over Matter is the latest drop from Lansing, MI based duo Sareem Poems & Ess Be. It released June 15th via Illect Recordings.

Audio: Mind Over Matter

After three years of writing, developing, and preparing new music, Sareem Poems and Ess Be are back with Mind Over Matter. Released via Illect Recordings, Mind is the second full length project from the Lansing, Michigan-based MC and producer duo. Their first album on Illect, 2015’s Beautiful Noise, was a highly motivational record based around positivity and perseverance. Mind Over Matter is definitely in the same vein as Noise, but it’s clear that as they worked on the new project, Poems and Ess Be weren’t afraid to dive deeper into who they’ve become as artists.

From start to finish, Mind Over Matter takes on some of the most pressing issues of our time. Employing his signature measured flow, Poems discusses political divisiveness, the dangers of succumbing to greed, loving yourself, and economic inequality in the United States. “So you in your heart of hearts really believe that the playing field is level?” he asks on the ninth track, “What’s Wrong.” Over the course of his twenty-year career, Sareem Poems has meticulously crafted a style of music informed by his deep respect, and love, for humanity. On Mind, Poems continues to build on that.

Over the last three years Ess Be has officially made the transition from being a part-time producer with a day job to pursuing music full time. Throughout Mind, Ess Be’s skill as a producer is on full display. Ess Be could easily fall back on familiar boom bap tropes or trendy drum patterns. Instead, he incorporates a little bit of everything. Heavy bass lines and trance-like EDM moments on tracks such as “Dance For The Dead” and “Eyedentity” keep the record moving as Sareem Poems adapts to each new musical moment.

As artists, Sareem Poems and Ess Be have never shied away from using their platform to bring people together—even as those in power would pull them apart. Mind Over Matter, their second full-length album on Illect Recordings, celebrates the beauty of humanity while also questioning the systems of inequity that have kept certain people in power for centuries. It’s always been important to practice self-care in the face of struggle and Mind Over Matter is a manifestation of that.
