O.C. drops the gripping cinematic visual for "A New Dawn" • Word Is Bond

By teckzilla Word Is Bond

The legendary O.C follows up his recent album release ” A New Dawn” with a brand new set of visuals for the title track. Employing the classic Nina Simone sample layered over a gloomy backdrop, O.C paints a harrowing portrait of our world’s future.

Video director Harold Urena brings the song to life using various motifs. O.C is placed on a rooftop overlooking a city that seems like an aftermath of a mild nuclear fallout and also scenes of him flanked by men wearing all-too-real masks of Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un, the Brooklyn rap king provides a vivid lyrical breakdown of his current mindstate, and where we may all be headed if things don’t change. Not to give too much away, but it’s pretty clear where the world—or what’s left of it—could be headed, but it’s not all doom and gloom from O.C. and .

“A New Dawn,” is the debut set of visuals off the February 16th release of his latest effort, A New Dawn, which is the second phase of his Same Moon Same Sun trilogy.

O.C. thrills on "Same Moon Same Sun: A New Dawn" • Word Is Bond

For every person whose breathing, we born to die/I take in account of receipts the pros and cons/ weighing the amount of all the things in this life time/ No 2 man is the same, your life ain’t like mine...”- O.C. on one of his new album’s standout cuts, “Sunday Morning”

It’s definitely a good day for hip-hop as legendary emcee/DITC member O.C. continues his epic Same Moon Same Sun saga with a thrilling second instalment, A New Dawn, that finds the veteran kingpin exploring politics, Hip-Hop, relationships, and other topics with his trademark next-level pen game. The 16 track project is chock full of heavy lyricism, insightful topics from his unique view point and of course hard body beats courtesy of producers Motif Alumni, who produced a majority of the album alongside Gwop Sullivan, Dark Keys, and O’s long standing D.I.T.C. cohort, Showbiz.

“Same Moon Same Sun: A New Dawn” in a nutshell blends the modern and old-school vibes that fans of O.C. will no doubt love, but he’s quick to make it clear that he’s not stuck in some past mindset. “I consider myself as an artist, period. I’m not a ‘90s artist if i’m still making music 20 years later,” he says. “Some people get stuck in time, I haven’t—that’s the difference between me and some others.”

Same Moon Same Sun: A New Dawn is now available through all digital retailers and streaming platforms via Slice Of Spice/D.I.T.C.

GRANDGOOD.COM: Standout Rap, 2017 [Mixed by DJ Sheep]

This collection of music focuses on the independent voice in hip-hop, where the tension of selling records to mass markets tends to be less pronounced. This doesn’t exclusively mean unsigned and you’ll note some music from career musicians. But even with long term artists the songs we selected felt less encumbered. Because of my heavy hand you’ll also have to deal with an east coast bias but yo that ain’t necessarily a bad thing all the time, is it?

Thanks to DMC champion DJ Sheep you can listen to the professionally mixed version featuring 40 or so of the 55 tracks listed below, recorded live in one take on 2 turntables and a mixer at the Bulletproof Crates lab in Brisbane, Australia on New Years Day 2018. You can also stream a warm @cv_ tape version and it might make you recall what it was like dubbing tapes for your close friends in ’88. We also have playlists on soundcloud and youtube you can hit shuffle on (yea we know, but Spotify doesn’t have most of the music).

Goes without saying but special thanks to the artists, we appreciate what you do. The Hip-Hop community suffered great loss in 2017 and not enough can be said about the lost talent. At the same time, enthusiasm from young heads and old heads alike keeps it going. Lest we forget, many founding artists, like Coke La Rock pictured above, continue to walk among us. So again, big up to all the artists but also the rest of the community of listeners, show promoters, podcasters, writers….

Special shout to Dj Sheep for lending his hand, literally. Peace to Ming for capturing stunning images of the legends throughout the year. And of course @CV_ for his dedication and influence. Participation is critical. Thank goodness for contemporary rap.

Connecting with a Legend (O.C. on WIB Rap Radio) • Word Is Bond

I have been a fan of O.C. ever since I first heard him on a radio mix show back in 1994. I can’t tell you how excited I was to get the chance to kick it with him live on the radio this week.

It was hard choosing the nine O.C. tracks I could fit into the show. His catalogue of released material is huge and speaks for itself.

I was surprised to find out that he writes every single day. There must be hundreds of tracks that we haven’t heard. Yet.

O.C. truly is a legend and he’s a cool, down-to-earth guy. It was a pleasure having him on the program. We talk about hip-hop history, longevity, his affiliation with D.I.T.C., Demigodz, and Hieroglyphics, and of course, spin tons of great music.

Enjoy the show!

O.C. ft Big L – Dangerous
Dan-e-o ft Choclair, Frankenstein, and Grimace Love – Dear Hip Hop (The 2nd Letter)

O.P.M. (O.C. PF Cuttin Music) — "Beneath The Planet Apes" (AUDIO).

(Art: Sue Works)

PF Cuttin says: The 13th of August is the one-year anniversary to “Planet Apes,” the song I produced with Sean [Price]. Originally, we were gonna do a three-part series of the song with the second being “Beneath The Planet Apes,” but Sean [passed and] I [fell] into depress mode. O.C. was working in my studio on some features at that time and basically lifted my spirits. I played him the track to “Beneath” and he went in on the track. We are currently working on an album, we are 8 songs deep.
