Ozay Moore "P.T.P.I." ft. Sivion, Sojourn and Ragen Fykes • Word Is Bond

Meager accommodations have produced some of the most resilient, imaginative, and impactful people throughout history. The Pot To Piss In for me is symbolic of basic needs, foundation, humble beginning’s and simplicity. This song was written close to 9 years ago while working on a mixtape with Canadian producer Wyze Intellect. The mix tape never achieved its finished state but we both felt good about the handful of songs we conjured up during the attempt. At the time, I wasn’t label mates with Sivion and Sojourn, just a long time friend and fan. Fast forward and we’re all on the Illect Recordings roster while P.T.P.I. has kept its freshness in tact for a 2018 release. – Ozay Moore

Ozay Moore and Tall Black Guy drop "WSTCST" • Word Is Bond

“WSTCST” is the latest single off Ozay Moore’s new album In The Wake Of O. The track features guest vocals by Tony Ozier & Teeko and production by Tall Black Guy.

Ozay shares, “In carrying out the theme of past, present and future on “In the Wake Of O”, It was important to follow up the notion of contentment heard on “Where You At?” with (of course) a statement of reflection and longing. In my case, that’s to one day return home to the WSTCST (West Coast)… namely Seattle… my birthplace.”

He continues, “Tall Black Guy shot me the beat as it was going to be a track for a collab album we were talking about working on. Being that I was already in the process of building “In the Wake Of O”, I petitioned it make the album. I knew once it was written that we had a serious joint on our hands. Once Tony Ozier laced the hook and Teeko touched it with the Talk Box… it was a wrap! This is for the W!

WSTCST is available now on all digital platforms.

Ozay Moore releases new album "In The Wake Of O" • Word Is Bond

Over the last 20 years, Ozay Moore (fka Othello) has proven himself to be an exceptional storyteller time and time again. Whether as a member of the classic hip hop trio, Lightheaded, or as a solo artist, Moore’s alto flow has always moved crowds. Aided by some of the most soulful production and a deep knowledge of hip-hop culture, Moore’s music is highly relatable because he blends personal experience with larger themes that cross cultural lines. Moore has been making records for quite some time so it would be understandable if he didn’t have more to say.

Thankfully, Ozay Moore is back and better than ever with In The Wake of O. Throughout his life Moore has seen a lot, done a lot, and Wake is a reflection of his journey in and outside of being an MC. Moore is no longer a young, ambitious rapper from Seattle focused solely on writing rhymes and traveling the world. Instead, he’s a family man in Lansing, MI having to strike a balance between his artistic goals and what’s best for his wife and two kids. How do you strike that balance? This is one of the central questions driving the record.

As the album unfolds, Moore grapples with the decision to drop the Othello moniker, his faith, racial politics in the U.S. and the impact of hip-hop on his life. The word “wake” can mean many things, and In the Wake of O takes into account every single one. With an exceptional set of producers including Stro Elliot, Tall Black Guy, Ess Be, Freddie Joachim and Ohmega Watts, Wake is a seamless blend of boom bap crunch and soulful grooves. With guest appearances by Braille, Sareem Poems, Jahshua Smith, James Gardin and Propaganda the wordplay is as on point as it is thought provoking.

Ultimately, In The Wake of O is a reminder of why hip-hop is such a powerful mode of communication. It also speaks to Ozay Moore’s deep love and respect for hip hop culture. As Wake plays from start to finish, Moore beautifully speaks on his personal journey while also making space for listeners to reflect on their own lives. There is something for everyone on this record.

Ozay Moore & Tall Black Guy “WSTCST” single

Ozay Moore’s In The Wake Of O album (Illect Recordings) is buzzing heavy right now. The latest single from the project is the Tall Black Guy produced “WSTCST”.

Stream “Crowd React” by Lightheaded (Ozay Moore, Ohmega Watts & Braille)

“Crowd React” is the latest single from Ozay Moore’s In The Wake Of O album releasing via Illect Recordings. Lightheaded briefly re-unites over Stro Elliot (The Roots) production.

In 2007 Braille, Ohmega Watts, and myself began working on what would’ve been our final Lightheaded album, Lo-Fi Heights. With each member living in different states, it was difficult to create the same level of synergy we once had. This magic was the byproduct of a window of time where we spent an absorbent amount of life together. Our chemistry on and off stage was so in sync that Lightheaded compositions almost wrote themselves with little to no interruptions in the creative process. We lived by the motto “Life First”, a concept derived from Braille’s debut solo album. So, when life pulled us in different directions desiring for our attentions to wane from machine that was LH, we were left with an unbreakable bond of friendship and a few solid cuts we hoped would eventually see the light of day. “Crowd React” captured the essence of Lightheaded’s live show in true crew fashion. The song actually served as as a lifeline to the idea of finishing the album one day. With some honest conversations between us three, and a developing solo album in my hands, we decided it was time to share a piece of the magic.
