Millenium Jazz revisits "Ruff Graft" a tribute to J Dilla • Word Is Bond

Ruff Graft was originally an in-house collaborative beat-tape made within a week by just some of the Millennium Jazz Music roster as they all took time out to pay homage to the late great Mr James Dewitt Yancey aka J Dilla.

We decided to revisit Ruff Graft and build upon the original track-list by including some of our newer label mates and then record the whole thing to cassette tape for ourselves and some dedicated collectors.

Since the release of the original CD and the RGR cassettes we had toyed with the fantasy of completing the cycle and releasing the album on 12″ vinyl. Eventually we stopped talking about it and just gave it a go.

Pre-order a copy of the red vinyl now on Qrates –

Brooklyn based producer/engineer/instrumentalist sndwn. recruits the duo of Waju and Emeka for his latest song “Routines”. The duo deliver some dope profound lyrics over sndwn.’s mellow, soulful backdrop. “Routines” is taken from his  album “The Halo Effect”.  “The Halo Effect” is a 13 track project and is your typical producer album in that sndwn/ produced all the tracks and got some amazing vocalists from all across the country on the joints. Top 5 Instrumental Submissions For 1st Week January 2018 • Word Is Bond

Once again we welcome y’all to 2018 and our newest segment that showcases the best instrumental submissions from producers far and wide. We do get a lot of these submissions and we gave it much thought to give some much needed attention to the men and women who work behind the scenes twisting and turning the knobs. Ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a warm reception to the very first set of our top instrumental submissions for the year 2018.

Myrial delivers a very sombre and nostalgia filled track. Using mellow drums and a heart warming Spanish guitar arrangement, he crafts something for the cold rainy nights.

LuxGaze‘s instrumental titled “Nostalgia” is just what the beat doctor prescribed. Using a very ominous and somewhat emotional powerful string arrangement over a downtempo drum patter, LuxGaze creates something that is both reflective and sobering.

J. Boom (formerly of the Finnish production crew The Boomjacks) delivers his full length instrumental tape titled “Due Tape”. Going solo for this project, he crafts a superb collection of eclectic instrumentals from an era in his life circa 2016-2017. The music could be described as eclectic hip hop and boom bap. It’s basis is on heavy sampling and hard hitting drums.

North Carolina based producer Product_90 shows why he has always been a fan of hip hop on his new track “Warzone”. With influences ranging from 9th Wonder, Flying Lotus, Pete Rock and many others, Product_90 crafts a hard hitting joint that will rock the tweeters off your speakers. Dark, grimy and head nodding are the words to summarize his effort.

German producer who goes by the moniker gifts us with his lo fi style of hiphop which also combines soulful arrangements over boombap-ish drum patterns. His latest work titled “The Chosen One” caught our ears with its sombre, reflective instrumentation.

So there you have it, please show some love to these hard working producers by spreading their works far and wide.

Santa Ana, Ca Native Eddy Rotten (Edward Miguez) serves us his brand of hiphop fused with punk elements. The sombre/gloomy track is a genre bending record that flirts with the idea of being rock and being hiphop), his single for his upcoming Mellow Thing Produced project “And then the skies were grey…”. This single was dedicated to all those that sacrificed so much for someone that was never content.

The duo of HVDES X JOSVANI team up for a tag team effort titled “Underground (Freestyle)”. This is some throwback, all bars no gimmicks type track.

Emily Georgia debuts on TWIB with her unorthodox brand of hiphop fused with rnb and pop sensibilities.  On her single “No Rebound” she sends a clear warning to any wannna be players with shady intentions towards her.

DJ/Producer DeeZystep comes through with an inspirational joint to wrap things up. THE SF bay Area, CA artist delivers an insightful perspective on his new single “One In A While” which he says was inspired by people around him and also dedicated to his late older brother Brandon. It’s about trying to stay sane & make sense of living through the ups & downs of life, working hard to come out on top of the struggle with a smile on your face, and seeking hope when you’re in despair. The song is off his upcoming album “Surreality” which is set for a the 19th of January.
