Top 5 submissions for 4th week june • Word Is Bond

We are still dedicated to showcasing the best tracks/videos from the underground by searching far and wide in order to bring you our weekly list. It’s a tough job as we sift through a ton of high-quality tracks just to settle for just 5. Now that is what we call dedication, so sit back relax and get familiar with these acts.
Remember, don’t forget to support them by sharing their works.

Dave Byrd set things off with this soulful head nodder titled “Feels”. The budding emcee delivers a smooth one with his laid-back flow over the soul-drenched backdrop. The visual was directed by Patrick O’Brien-Smith and puts the emcee in his element performing his lines in various locations. “Feels” is taken from his latest project with NuDavinci called, “GVOTapes“. Listen to the entire tape HERE

Poet X laces a smooth joint titled “Peace” over a chilled, jazzy backdrop that would definitely get your head nodding once you hit the play button. “Peace” is taken off  his compilation, “Loosies.” A collection of songs recorded over a two-year span!

Leeds-born alternative hip-hop artist Doberman introduces us to his unique style of hip-hop that blends lo-fi jazz and personal insights. On “Something Cinematic,” Doberman compliments the space of Broadley’s stripped-down production with tightly-packed rhyme patterns that twist and turn from start to finish, mirroring the very internal conflict he describes. Falling somewhere between Loyle Carner and the Fred Perry days of Alex Turner, Doberman’s layered lyrics are distinctly unkempt in delivery, proving an impassioned ally to Broadley’s melancholic piano samples.

iRoc Omega delivers his first single “It’s all on you”, the bouncy backdrop features the legendary Snoop Dogg and vocalist Dre’ Rock who all come through with that classic west coast party vibe. The smooth jam is mainly for the ladies in the house and is produced by Emmy award-winning producer and composer, Jason Hausman.

Dom Vaccarelli wraps up this week’s list with a somber, trap-influenced jam titled “Bodak Vac”. The budding rapper comes through with a laid-back flow that cascades the hard-hitting backdrop. “Bodak Vac” is the fifth track off his debut album Dark Matter streaming on all digital platforms

Top 5 submissions for 1st week in April 2018 • Word Is Bond

Welcome to April y’all! Without much further ado, let’s get cracking right into some dopeness from the underground. If you like what you hear, do not hesitate to show these artists some love and spread their music as much as you can.

Aliano & Jakk Wonders are back and this time Aliano details how the duo connected on their latest banger titled “Let The Story Begin” The Pomona vet details coming across Wonders’ beat work and how it led to working alongside the likes of Reks, M-Dot, Ruste Juxx and more while gaining props from Hip-Hop legends DJ Eclipse and DJ Premier on their respective SiriusXM radio shows and more.

Let The Story Begin serves as the first single off the duos upcoming EP “The Originz” which is set for release in late April 2018.

Forever M.C teams up with west coast legends Kurupt and Snoop Dogg for a laid-back tune titled “Girls Gone Crazy”. Hit the play button and get familiar.

June Dakid pens a thought-provoking letter to the commander in chief touching on several social issues. The song features production from Kimbo Beatz and Reece lends her vocals for the release.

“Dear Mr. President” is a single off his new Album “Live My 7 Day Theory”.

Emcee, producer and lyricist EB Rebel shares the new music video for her single  “Spiritual”. Coming off of her sophomore EP Mama, I’m OK, “Spiritual” is a powerfully uplifting track, paying homage to EB’s Dallas, Texas roots and the city’s freestyle culture.

Eb explains the deeper meaning behind the track: “Spiritual is a spin on the negro spirituals created to persevere through their conditions; a new type of spiritual.”

Tee Noah drops the visuals for his thought-provoking record titled “Sunday Service”. The already controversial track now gets reinforced on the screen with an equally charged video that brings the lyrics to life. The video aims to speak on the contradiction we all face living in the modern day society.

Prince George’s County, MD based producer Dee Da Kid cooks up a solid production titled “Relax (Be Easy)”. A mellow blend of jazz sounds and boombap.   As for the song, it’s the first single off of his debut tape “ Vinyl Days”. It’s basically going through the struggles.

GRANDGOOD.COM: Standout Rap, 2017 [Mixed by DJ Sheep]

This collection of music focuses on the independent voice in hip-hop, where the tension of selling records to mass markets tends to be less pronounced. This doesn’t exclusively mean unsigned and you’ll note some music from career musicians. But even with long term artists the songs we selected felt less encumbered. Because of my heavy hand you’ll also have to deal with an east coast bias but yo that ain’t necessarily a bad thing all the time, is it?

Thanks to DMC champion DJ Sheep you can listen to the professionally mixed version featuring 40 or so of the 55 tracks listed below, recorded live in one take on 2 turntables and a mixer at the Bulletproof Crates lab in Brisbane, Australia on New Years Day 2018. You can also stream a warm @cv_ tape version and it might make you recall what it was like dubbing tapes for your close friends in ’88. We also have playlists on soundcloud and youtube you can hit shuffle on (yea we know, but Spotify doesn’t have most of the music).

Goes without saying but special thanks to the artists, we appreciate what you do. The Hip-Hop community suffered great loss in 2017 and not enough can be said about the lost talent. At the same time, enthusiasm from young heads and old heads alike keeps it going. Lest we forget, many founding artists, like Coke La Rock pictured above, continue to walk among us. So again, big up to all the artists but also the rest of the community of listeners, show promoters, podcasters, writers….

Special shout to Dj Sheep for lending his hand, literally. Peace to Ming for capturing stunning images of the legends throughout the year. And of course @CV_ for his dedication and influence. Participation is critical. Thank goodness for contemporary rap.
